What actually helps with Morning Sickness!

With the beauty of pregnancy usually comes the dreadful morning sickness. Or as I would like to call it, the all-day sickness

It can be such a hard part of pregnancy and if you are currently going through it, you got this. Everything is temporary and it won’t last forever, I promise. I hope sharing some of these tips will help ease the sickness for you a little. Though I will say nothing really makes it go away completely until your body is done with the Morning sickness.

When it comes to understanding morning sickness there isn’t much known about it. It is known that it is a Hormone that is produced during pregnancy. And it can be frustrating not having a pinpoint cause for something that takes over your life for a short period. I know it’s not fun being miserable all day, so I hope these help.

And remember Mama you are amazing! It takes a lot out of a woman to grow a baby, and you are doing it like the champion you are! You are one day closer to meeting that beautiful baby, it’s worth it I promise.

Ginger

Whether it is ginger ale or ginger chews, or tea ginger is one of the better options to start off on if you are wanting to stay more natural. Ginger has a natural anti-nausea and anti-inflammatory aspect to it which is helpful when you are having stomach issues or morning sickness.

I would take Ginger Chews, and they would help on the good days, but on those days where you can’t keep anything down, they didn’t help as much. But they do a good job at setting your stomach.

Or if you are a tea drinker getting a ginger and peppermint tea is a must! It acts as a double whammy, both drinking water and helping soothe that nausea.

Fluids

I know I said this with the teas but making sure you are getting your fluids is important. I would notice that when I was dehydrated it made my symptoms so much worse. I had an issue with water for a good 10 weeks, where even smelling water (yes, I know it doesn’t have a smell) would make me gag and heave.

So, finding alternate routes to getting fluids is good. I recommend a good ol ‘gatorade or propel. But iced tea was one of the only things I could keep down, I’m not sure why but baby girl loved it.

Crackers

I feel like this one is pretty self-explanatory but having something small by your bedside table or with you at all times of day is helpful. Small bites help keep your stomach settled.

Sprite/ginger ale

Having something carbonated is really helpful to settle that stomach! I would carry some with me while shopping in town or at work. This actually saved me from throwing up while waiting for my groceries at the checkout line! Thankfully I saved myself from that embarrassment!

Rest

Making sure you are getting sleep and rest is important, especially in those early months! I found sleeping or laying my head down would calm my nausea down a tad, if you can have something on in the background to help take your mind off your symptoms as well, I found that helpful.

Magnesium supplement

This was another supplement that helped me get by. Your body’s supply of Magnesium can deplete during pregnancy. I would take a magnesium vitamin or drink to get it.

This is the drink I would get, and it also doubled as a stool softener!

Vitamin B6 and Unisom

This was the one thing that actually worked for me. Vitamin B6 alone or combined with Unisom was the only thing that actually kept the nausea at bay. I would take it at night since it can make you drowsy. This is something that was recommend by a pharmacist before starting medication prescribed by my doctor.

Definitely check with your doctor before trying this!

I would like to conclude that morning sickness is no joke! Just remember that it is temporary, and you get an amazing gift at the end of it all. I know it doesn’t feel like it, but you will get through it! I hope this help and if you want to read more tips and tricks check out my other blogs below. Remember you are amazing, and you got this!
